How it works
We follow the imaging research and prototypes that hint at the next generation.
Plain-English explainers turn sensor jargon into what it means for your photos.
Labeled timelines tell you whether to upgrade now or wait for what's coming.
Questions people ask
What is computational photography?
Using software — multiple exposures, machine learning, clever merging — to produce images a lens and sensor couldn't capture alone. It's why phone photos improved faster than phone optics.
Will phones replace dedicated cameras?
For most people they already have; for long lenses, big sensors, and specialty work, dedicated cameras keep clear advantages. We track where each line is moving.
How far away is the tech you cover?
Every story is labeled: shipping now, one to two years out, or research stage. The lab-to-shelf tracker keeps the timelines honest.
